Our Cardboard Pipe Dream

What is Cardboard Pipe Dream?

Cardboard Pipe Dream is an experimental design/build project. The idea for the project was started by a group of 3rd year design students at Philadelphia University's Architecture program as a way of expanding their design experience by interfacing with the city and it's citizens, literally, by building an interactive piece of architecture.

Our challenge is to build and install a temporary public structure in the city using 100% recyclable and donated materials. Our prime building material is cardboard tubing; which are commonly found preforming the rather mundane job of holding rolls of paper, newsprint, fabric, and carpeting awaiting unrolling. But happens after that? What more could a cardboard tube be in life?

Cardboard Pipe Dream is design/build which means that besides designing the students involved will also be constructing and installing their project!

Check back to our blog this month as we gather materials, experiment with construction techniques, and our structure becomes a reality - whether we have a spectacular success of a fantastic failure we're going to give it our all!

And be sure to see our List of Donors on the right hand side of our blog to see who has been feeding us our much needed cardboard tubes!

Do you want to become a donor? Email Prof. Andrew Hart and arrange for a donation pick up - We'd appreciate the cardboard!!
